Honored Guest 2011
George Strawbridge Jr. internationally known breeder, owner, and former steeplechase rider, has been selected as the Thoroughbred Club of America’s Honored Guest for 2011. He will be honored by the Club at its 80 annual Testimonial Dinner at Keeneland Race Course on Sunday evening, October 30, 2011, the TCA board of directors has announced.
“Over a long career, Mr. Strawbridge has exemplified the best traditions of horsemanship and sportsmanship,” said TCA president Julie Cauthen. “His personal commitment to the sport of Thoroughbred racing extends beyond his own personal success to outspoken leadership on behalf of the game.”
Strawbridge’s Augustin Stable for many years has been identified in the top echelon of the American Steeplechase scene, and he has also raced many major stars on the flat. These include Eclipse Award winners Forever Together and Informed Decision, English St. Leger winner Lucarno, and five-time grade I winner With Anticipation. Strawbridge has won three Breeders’ Cup events, the 1994 Turf with Tikkanen, the 2008 Filly and Mare Turf with Forever Together, and the 2009 Filly and Mare Sprint with Informed Decision. He has also bred many of the major Augustin Stable brigade.
